The Plastic Car (is made from metal) — Gijs Schalkx

by Gijs Schalkx

Gijs Schalkx redesigned an abandoned car to run on fuel made from plastic waste. The de-refinery converts plastic waste into fuel and is installed on the top of the car, making the vehicle independent of fossil fuel infrastructure. It celebrates the power of DIY and the individual agency it brings.

Gijs Schalkx is a designer & DIY-activist. His work celebrates the power of do-it-yourself and the individual agency it brings. Through low-tech interventions, he provides us with a more direct understanding of how desire, effort, reward and impact can balance out.

This project is funded by Stimuleringsfonds / Creative Industries Fund NL, the Dutch national cultural fund for design, architecture and digital culture. It funds innovative, often interdisciplinary design projects.
